    Key Responsibilities

    • Lifecycle Compliance: Ensure mechanical engineering solutions meet all requirements, including quality, safety, and reliability, throughout the entire engineering lifecycle.
    • Innovation & Development: Lead the inception, research, and development of mechanical solutions for advancing IR detector technology.
    • Technical Support: Provide technical solutions for product and program teams, addressing all aspects of mechanical engineering.
    • Design Standards: Create mechanical designs adhering to business and industry standards.
    • CAD Design: Utilize 3D CAD tools for mechanical design and development.
    • Hands-On Implementation: Engage in practical development builds and Design of Experiments.
    • Production Support: Assist procurement and manufacturing during new product introductions.
    • Project Management: Manage work package delivery to meet quality, schedule, and cost targets.
    • Mentorship: Guide junior team members in engineering best practices.

    Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge


    • Education: Minimum of an upper second class degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
    • Industry Experience: Experience in highly regulated engineering sectors.
    • CAD Proficiency: Proficient in 3D CAD, preferably PTC Creo.
    • Problem Solving: Skilled in using a structured, logical approach to address issues.
    • Design Expertise: Experience in detailed mechanical design, including numerical calculations and tolerance studies.
    • Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with BS8888 drawing standards and GD&T application.
    • Team Collaboration: Comfortable working in multi-discipline engineering teams to meet project targets.


    • Advanced Degree: MEng in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Sector Experience: Experience in Defence, Space, or Medical sectors.
    • Specialized Knowledge: Familiar with vacuum assemblies and optical assembly design.
    • Electro-Mechanical Design: Experienced in designing for harsh environments, including EMC considerations.
    • Analysis Skills: Competent in Mechanical & Thermal Analysis, including ‘first pass’ analyses.
    • Tool & Fixture Design: Industrial experience in designing tools and fixtures for detailed requirements.
    • Vibration Test Design: Experience in designing vibration test fixtures.
